'Lomita' literally means the little knoll, when translated to Spanish. The South Bay area was under Spanish influence for a large part of its existence and thus, there is a perceptible Spanish influence in the area, especially in Lomita. If you are a fan of Spanish food, architecture and people, then Lomita is the perfect weekend destination for you and your family.

With a population of just over 20,000, the city is calm, quiet and yet, in vicinity of Los Angeles, which makes it an epitome of a perfect weekend getaway destination. The Lomita Railroad Museum is probably the most popular and attraction of all "destinations" that Lomita has to offer. The Museum was opened to the public in 1966 by the Lewis Couple, who have dedicated the museum to the era of steam engines and railroads. The couple also ran "Little Engines of Lomita", which was basically a do it yourself kit for live steam engines.

The Rail road museum is open to public from Thursday to Sunday and is one of the most popular stoppages for the over the weekend travelers. Rob Van Dam had also established his legacy store, known by the name of 5 star comics. The store was initially established at Lakewood, and later, the wrestler moved it into Lomita, where it was eventually shut down.
Apart from the "well known" destinations discussed above, Lomita has a number of other places that beckon the avid traveler. Zamperini Field, which was earlier a part of Lomita, is a testimony to the fact that people from all over the world fly into this area to experience its old world Spanish charm to the core. The Zamperini is one of the busiest general use airports in the country. So, if you are a connoisseur of great food, amazing sunshine, great bars and lounges and are seeking a weekend experience that would beckon you time and again- its time to see you in Lomita!
